Us Youth
"Welcome to the Youth Page for United Church of God, South Africa. South Africa has an active youth program to benefit youths who attend Church. God's way is the way of giving and leads to many positive benefits. One of our goals for our youth in the Church, is to realize that God's way leads to real "fun". The world has the wrong idea of what entertainment and fun should be.

We conduct a youth camp every year in South Africa and if you are interested, be sure to contact the e-mail address of United Church of God, South Africa."

Youth Camp
The 2004 United Church of God, Southern Africa Youth camp was held at the Glenmore Eco-Centre approximately 160km (100 miles) south of Durban in the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal. This coastal centre hosted many different activities ranging from Snorkelling, Archery, Mountain Biking, 3 different Obstacle Courses, Repelling, Sea Kayaking and Surf rafting.

We would welcome applications from overseas for both campers and counsellors and if numbers permit would be prepared to organise a "safari" to a local game reserve either before or after camp. The professional staff from the Eco-Centre guided the campers through the various activities offered. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jahns, pastor and his wife from the Johannesburg congregation, administered the Christian education and Grant Chick, a member from the Durban congregation, was camp director.

The youth and staff were housed in true South African bush camp style, sleeping in permanent tents on raised foundations and eating in the open under a roof around one long table.

The main attraction of the camp was that it was within walking distance of the beach and included many beach-related activities.

The activities included sea kayaking, surf rafting, archery, three different types of team-building obstacle courses, mountain biking, snorkeling, abseiling/rappelling, orienteering, conservation education and Christian living classes. After the evening activities, the youth spent time singing and socializing around the campfire.

Although the end of camp came quickly, plans are already in place for next year, with new and exciting activities for the youth to experience.

Our Teen Bible Study Page
The Teen Bible Study Discussion Guides were created by volunteers, including young adults, ministers and concerned parents to offer some meaningful subjects to discuss with your youth group.

The guides are not meant to be the definitive doctrinal paper on any subject but rather a discussion guide that will help your facilitator/instruction cover subjects of interest to teens. Parents may want to use these at home in a private family discussion.

There are no specific rules on when and how you use these guides. Some will want to have a meeting before or after Sabbath services and use the guides to frame a discussion. It is advisable to have the subject announced in advance and encourage some reading and preparation. Experience has taught us that there does need to be guidance and clear Biblical teaching.

Some ways to make the study/discussion more profitable would include:

Seek proofs
Cite examples and
Relate experiences

Many more guides are planned. You may choose to use them in any order or perhaps plan a diet that includes doctrinal as well as social issues. The Holy Day guides are topical and can be used in the appropriate holy day season.

If you have any comments or suggestions please let us know. Hopefully you will have many pleasant hours of studying the Word of God. So check it out!

Warmly,
Larry Greider

Vertical Thought Magazine
Vertical Thought—a magazine of understanding for tomorrow's leaders—strives to serve up relevant content to help young adults and teens discover and live God's way of life. Thinking vertically is a challenge God offers all of us. Even though we human beings are presently temporal, flesh-and-blood beings, as Christians we are empowered to "seek those things which are above, where Christ is," and to set our minds "on things above" (Colossians 3:1-2).

Vertical Thought exists to help you not only think about, but act on, these things from above—the things that are really most important in life. Apply what you read and you can have a better life now as well as in the future. Remember: as one "thinks in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7).

Get it right here!
